Our Morning Animal Care Routine

We have here, at Home Brew Acres, a small menagerie that live in the house with us.  Our current collection consists of 3 dogs, 3 cats, 2 bearded dragons and a Dubia roach colony(for feeding the dragons). Every morning I gather up all of the feeding bowls for everyone and give them all a good scrubbing.  After the bowls are squeaky clean, I feed the cats.

The cats tend to be very demanding in their feeding routine and if they are not fed first they revolt.  A cat revolt is never something that I care to go through.  All 3 cats are a bit over weight, so they share one can of wet food between them plus joint supplements and allergy meds.  During the time that I am dividing and mixing their food, they are under foot yelling at me.

After delivering their bowls upstairs, where they can eat in peace, I prepare the dog's breakfast.  All 3 dogs enjoy kibble twice a day, in the mornings they get something yummy added to their bowls along with their kibble.  On this particular day, I added yogurt and a frozen treat ball.  Other things that I might add in the mornings are cottage cheese, scrambled eggs or a variety of fruits and veggies.  In the evenings they will get meat or a homemade food that I make in addition to their evening kibble.

Aurora and Gryff get water added also, but Finley prefers his kibble dry.  Finley will eat the good stuff and then dump the kibble to eat off the floor. 🙄
After getting the dog's, who are way more behaved than the cats, kenneled and fed, it is time to feed the dragons.  Currently the dragons get a large hand full of chopped greens and butternut squash.

And because it is winter they are getting mealworms, live and dried, for their protein.  Whatever protein they are having, it is every other day and the bugs get a coating of calcium dust.  On this day the dragons got live mealworms.

They really like protein days and crunch away at their bugs.

Our Dubia roach colony only gets fed 3 times a week.  When feeding the roach colony, I always do a thorough check to make sure that they are well and we are not loosing too many to the cold.  So far they are doing great and have even been reproducing, though not very many.  The roach colony eats the same veggies that are being fed to the dragons, which gets scattered on the bottom of their tub.  I also take this time to remove any uneaten, dried out veggies.  Roaches get their fluids from eating juicey veggies.  Once we have warmer temperatures, I'm sure this colony will take off and really thrive.

This whole routine takes me between 20 and 30 minutes, start to finish.  I enjoy that I get to be at home now and give all our creatures a little more extra love and attention.  And I know that they enjoy it too, well maybe not the roaches but everyone else sure does.
